General Elections in Pakistan are going to held in February 8, 2024 in all over the country. However, there will be a holiday all over the country on February 8. The purpose of the Election Holidays is to facilitate voters in exercising their right to cast their vote.
Election Holidays by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)
This tradition stems from the General Election held in 2018. In 2018 the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared July 25th as a public holiday.
ECP is going to make use of its powers. The Article 218 of the Constitution declares a public holiday all over the country, in Pakistan on the election day.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), during the last general elections in the country, declared a holiday on the day of polling. So, the last practice will follow, and the holiday will be declared on February 8.
Election Holidays in February
As per previous practices, Kashmir Day 2024, on February 5 is a public holiday in Pakistan. Furthermore, it is under observation that 4 public holidays are going to be announced on the general election 2024. As Kashmir Day falls on a Monday, there will be two consecutive holidays of Sunday and Monday.
Decision of Election Holidays by Govt. of Pakistan
Considering delicate circumstances in Pakistan, Govt. is considering 3 holidays from 7 to 9 February 2024. One day before election, on election day and one day after election in all public and private schools and colleges.
This fortunate coincidence would provide the people of Pakistan will experience more than two public holidays in the same week.
As everyone in the country waits for the ECP to tell us which party will lead our future democracy.
This makes the upcoming general elections even more exciting. It brings attention to how being a good citizen and celebrating together can happen at the same time.
